The story behind the Calzada de los Frailes.
The Calzada de los Frailes was built in the 16th century. Spanish people had separated the Mayan inhabitants from the main Spanish settlement, in what were the ruins of the Mayan city Zací.
As it turns out, this cobbled street that the Franciscan friars had built would serve as a connection between Valladolid and SIsal. The friars could leave the Indian village and go to the main church in an accessible way.
The path took them from the Convent of San Bernardino de Siena in Sisal to the church of San Servacio in the center of the city, where now the Main Park of Valladolid is located: Francisco Cantón Rosado.
